Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her work is celebrated for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form, intertwining elements of realism, symbolism, and surrealism. Kahlo's paintings reflect her personal life, including her marriage to Diego Rivera, her illnesses and her political beliefs. Her Blue House (La Casa Azul) in Mexico City is now a museum dedicated to her life and work. Kahlo's "Two Nudes in the Forest" sold for $8 million in 2016, a record for a Latin American artist.
